W07 Essay - Aristotelian Analysis of Macbeth

As ambition developed, Macbeth plotted to become the next King of Scotland. These intentions were eventually planted by the three weird sisters (witches) as soon as they met Macbeth and Banquo returning from their victorious wars against two separate armies from Ireland and Norway. Their prediction to Macbeth said that he will be “Thane of Cawdor” and eventually King of Scotland, and to Banquo they said “Thou shalt get kings, though thou be none” a way of saying that he will become the forefather of Scottish Kings. So all hail, to both Macbeth and Banquo! Like a joke, Macbeth and Banquo realized that the prophecy was about to be accomplished when they were told by Ross and Angus (two King’s men) that Thane was convicted and condemned to death for treason. Soon after that, King Duncan has named Macbeth Thane of Cawdor. Coincidence or destiny? Macbeth began to believe in the prophecies. Macbeth shares the prophecies with his wife and soon discover how ambitious she was to the p...

W04 Essay Perceive the Elements of a Film (Aristotle's elements)

W04 Essay Perceive the Elements of a Film ( Aristotle's elements)   Plot: What can you say about the plot in this little excerpt? A lonely man who probably didn’t have friends living in a castle protected by a camera and surrounded by fences with a sign “No Trespassing.” Before his sudden death, he whispered a name or word “Rosebud” then dropped the snow globe that rolled down the steps. Then comes a lady to fix his body on the bed and cover him.   . Character: Describe what you know of the main character. The main knowledge I have about this man is that he was an unhappy wealthy citizen of Kane. Unhappiness and regrets of being alone probably caused his sudden death.   Thought: What thoughts is the filmmaker trying to convey?   My personal assumption as based on this clip is to avoid the life of isolation which brings depression and sudden life. In short, no matter how much richer a person can be, isolation is not a good option.   Diction: There is only one-wo...

W02 Assignment: Observe Music and Architecture

Image
As a large ensemble of instruments with bowed strings, the orchestra on this video had played by “Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake”. In an audio version, a listener will perceive that there is more than one instrument playing throughout the songs and more than one melody line is played concurrently. In this performance, the most leading instruments are woodwind instruments such as the bassoon (00:02), oboe (00:03), and flute (00:12); string instruments such as violin (00:19) and louder sound of a bass (00:40) can also be heard. The music sounds irregular, going through different pitches. This happens by not the woodwind instruments alone but by the combination of the various instruments which affects me as a listener into feeling playful and light. While these instruments provide a very pleasant, light, and overall joyous music leading to meditation, this beautiful piece of music is mainly consonant; it fluctuates smoothly and has some neat characteristics. The music uses the 4 beats in a bar a...

Week 14 Reflection: The Last Word

This was the most challenging semester that I have experienced during my studies, and taking ENG 301 added more workload to my degree planner. In most scenarios, authentic writing required a quiet place and peace of mind. After work, I had to help my wife with children’s needs, find a moment to relax, then study until late hours. I was frustrated several times. There was a moment that I felt like quitting but through prayers and my family’s support, I managed to reach the last week after a lot of effort. My love for reading books, articles on the internet, and writing down my thoughts softened my stress of writing. In addition, this course has sharpened my ability to give a clear meaning of my feelings and thoughts in my writing. The other advantage I felt from this course this semester was the fact that I was also registered for Business Law (BUS 375). The Business Law requires me to submit a “legal brief” every week;  therefore,  writing skill was a necessity. The skill rece...
